Made Smarter Helps Manufacturers Turn Pain into Empowerment with Digitalisation Plan

The Made Smarter programme is helping manufacturers across the UK turn pain into empowerment by demystifying digitalisation and driving technology adoption. With a free downloadable guide to help manufacturers plan production and capacity, oversee and manage the workforce, forecast demand, and inventory needs, manage stock levels and optimise picking, and automate the packaging process, manufacturers can reap the benefits of investing in technology to cope with increasing demand during busy periods.

Case studies of Made Smarter-supported manufacturers show how they are using digital tools to increase productivity, capacity, and enable staff to focus on value-added jobs. Seven Bro7hers Brewery, based in Salford, is automating their packaging line, while Ye Olde Friars, a chocolate maker in Cumbria, is replacing the manual, repetitive and incredibly time-consuming process of filling moulds with chocolate, resulting in 700% more chocolate production.

Fox Timber, who make timber products, based in Chorley, used digital tools to digitise their delivery service and improve workforce management. Pearsons Glass, a glass maker, implemented stock management through software that integrates with their webshop and automatically generates a pick list for the operator.

The Made Smarter team can work with manufacturers to identify potential solutions to challenges and develop an implementation plan to ensure success in 2023. So far, the adoption programme in the North West has supported 2,500 manufacturers to start their digital journey and 275 of them have invested in new technology, resulting in 1,250 new jobs, upskilling almost 2,300 existing roles, and delivering an additional £176 million in gross value added to the region.

Digitalisation is the key to unlocking the potential of manufacturers and helping them to become more efficient, build resilience, increase their productivity and grow sustainably. With the help of the Made Smarter programme, manufacturers can turn pain into empowerment and make a real difference to the UK’s net zero target by 2050.

I’m so glad to see the Made Smarter Programme helping manufacturers in the UK become more efficient and build resilience. I’ve seen the positive results of digitalisation in my own business and can attest to the benefits it brings. It’s great to see a programme in place to help others do the same.

  • I’m a huge advocate of digitalisation and I’m glad to see the Made Smarter programme helping businesses across the UK adopt technology and reap its benefits. I’ve seen first-hand how digital tools can help companies become more efficient and grow sustainably.
